Welcome to the genealogy page of Nina Young-Bennett. The research here is for my husband's branch of the family. With roots and branches in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, and Minnesota, the family has spread across the U. S. The surnames I am researching are BENNETT, AKERS, CRUMPLER, WOOTEN, and HAMILTON My husband's parents are Alton Bennett, of Beulah, Alabama; and Lola Mae Bennett (nee: CRUMPLER), of Accord, Georgia (Telfair County). ALTON BENNETT is one of four children of Henry Bennett and Lena McCullough, both of Lee County, Alabama. His siblings are Edna Belle, Hugh, and E.C. It is not known whether Lena had any siblings, nor are the names of her parents known. Henry, however, had five brothers (Roland, John, George, Charlie, and Tom). At some point, their mother remarried. At this point, this is where family branches get lost. All the boys, with the exception of Tom, took the name of their new step-father, BENNETT. Tom retained the family name of AKERS. LOLA MAE CRUMPLER is the child of James Elbert Crumpler, Jr., of Dublin, Georgia, and Rena Elvira Wooten, of Accord, Georgia. She had five brothers and sisters: Anna, John, Kelly, Lercy, and Artilla. James was the son of James Elbert Crumpler, Sr. and his wife, Lula. He had one sister, Minnie. Rena, or "Dollie May as she was commonly referred, was one of 10 children of Dunnie Wooten and Anna Hamilton, of McRae, Georgia. The other siblings were Iola, Ula, Catherine, Lula, Elnora, Junior, Willie, Miles, and Jimmie. James and Rena ultimately relocated to Rochester, New York, where both are now buried. Our greatest wish would be to re-establish contact with any surviving family members and to fill in some of the missing links in the family tree.
